Why evidence based podiatry should be the norm in modern hoof care

Evidence based podiatry is what we do - we apply in the field what we learn by continuous education and supported by objective data and exposure to scientific studies (which are widely available and accessible). We also collect objective data and demonstrate the outcome of our work evidence.

How we helped one horse recovery from laminitis

By assessing the gait, posture, hoof morphology and other indications we have come to realise are associated with laminitis, we were able to assist Dante quickly and efficaciously and a far more serious episode of acute and chronic laminitis was narrowly avoided.

To assist with balancing and to monitor changes, we recommended radiographs were taken and using Metron-Hoof blocks and imaging software. We marked up the images and hoof photos and were able to provide objective data and evidence to Dante's owner and team of professionals that the recovery programme and trim method are assisting Dante's recovery. Dante has a way still to go but her hoof morphology is healthier than it was before we met her when she had active laminitis and poor hoof proportions and compensatory posture.

Dante's owner Tracy of Lakeland Livery in West Cumbria is delighted at Dante's progress and incredible recovery and believes Dante "wouldn't be here without our intervention" last Autumn.
